Due to the unreliability of fixed-line infrastructure in Ghana, mobile phones are more widely used than landlines. However, landlines exist, and are maintained by Vodafone. (Vodafone purchased a majority stake in the state-run Ghana Telecom Company in 2008.)
There are still some areas, mostly outside of Accra, where landlines do not exist. Vodafone will survey and connect a landline for free, if requested. Many businesses have landlines, but because of their unreliability, will also have mobile numbers.
Vodafone provides fixed lines, Internet service and mobile phone. They claim to have the fastest Internet connection in Ghana. Vodafone lines were originally copper, but are now in the process of being replaced with fiber-optic, thereby increasing internet connection speeds. Vodafone is the only option for getting your Internet via landline. Various packages are available.
